The shop is one of six finalists from across the East of England who will be battling for the top spot.

The Cake Shop has been baking using traditional methods handed down over three generations.

The business has expanded in recent years and even roasts their own coffee.

David Wright from the Cake Shop said: “I think what sets us apart from the competition is our mission to make brilliant bakes affordable and create strong links to the local community.

“We have a commitment to our customers who have supported us through thick and thin over the years. So many small bakeries disappeared from the high street but we’ve managed to survive.

“My father Peter always instilled in me the need to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing needs of our customers.”

The Cake Shop will be going head to head with Choose Spice from the Suffolk Food Hall at Wherstead for the chance to represent Suffolk in the competition.

Once selected the county champion will then be visited by a panel of experts before the results are revealed later this year.

Roger Grosvenor, Joint Chief Executive at the East of England Co-op, said: ““The awards are a celebration of produce from across East Anglia – a region which is home to some of the most diverse and exciting products in the UK.

“The Cake Shop is a family-run multi-award winning bakery with traditional roots and a long history.

“Producer of the Year aims to celebrate the success of these businesses and I would like to urge everyone to vote and show your support for the producers that have been picked to showcase the best of Suffolk.”

The vote runs from January 21 until February 21.
